Mid-Winter Break's Dream
Mid-winter break is almost here! Doesn’t it seem like the first winter break was only a week ago? What are you going to do to keep the kids entertained for a week? Don’t fret, spend a few nights in Seattle Southside bowling, eating, jumping, swimming, and having a great time.
Get the family out of the house for a few days (or a week if you can spare it!) and into a hotel. There are plenty of family-friendly hotels just south of Seattle with indoor pools to keep the kids happy. If you haven’t been to this area in a while, you’ll notice that it’s kind of blown up with new activities and restaurants.

The shopping scene at Westfield Southcenter hasn’t slowed down a bit, but it’s the restaurants at the mall that have been getting all the attention lately. The newly opened Din Tai Fung is a must-try for people of all ages. The savory pork chop fried rice, garlic string beans, and shrimp and pork dumplings are full of flavor and will have you coming back for more. If you’ve got a picky eater in the family who’s not into Taiwanese delicacies, head just outside the mall to Bahama Breeze. With a tropical island vibe, fresh Caribbean entrees, and an extensive kid’s menu featuring bowtie mac ‘n’ cheese and chicken tenders, it’s a surefire hit.

On the backside of Westfield Southcenter, you’ll find the bowling and gaming megaplex: Round 1. Round 1 is all sorts of fun with a bowling alley, expansive arcade, bar and grill, and even karaoke! The only downside is that kids are never willing to leave when you want to…the trick is to take them to another fun place like Defy! The newest attraction in Seattle Southside is sure to get any remaining energy out of the kids for the night. Defy is an extreme air sports park, which has trampolines, foam pits, rope swings, and all sorts of obstacles for an exciting, free running adventure. Think of it as an all ages, indoor American Ninja Warrior experience that’s fun for the whole family.

If you’re looking to get a bit of that late February fresh air during your stay, we’ve got plenty of parks to explore, including Des Moines Beach Park, Redondo Beach, Saltwater State Park, and Seahurst Park. The kids will have plenty of space to run around as you comb the beach for shells and enjoy the sights and smells of Puget Sound. If you go to one of the parks in the Des Moines area, you should take the family to the Des Moines Dog House for lunch. It’s the quintessential northwest hot dog shack with a Columbian twist. The Dog House also happens to be next door to the kid-favorite, Waterland Arcade. While the kids play video games, you can relax and grab a drink from the Sand Bar.
There’s a great deal of fun to be had (and food to be eaten) in Seattle Southside this time of year. Get the kids out of the house and spend some time in Seattle Southside. Considering mid-winter break is only a couple weeks away, book your hotel now! Adventure awaits…
