Explore Seattle Through Food with a Food Tour
Whether you are a native Seattleite or a traveling tourist, Seattle is famously known for its passion and creativity for food. Those who want to thrill their taste buds and experience Pacific Northwest cuisines should consider Seattle because of its close proximity to the mountains, access to fresh waters, and great weather conditions for healthy crops which give us the perfect environment for a wide selection of local ingredients to choose from.
I would highly recommend taking the Belltown Food Tour when visiting Seattle because you not only get to taste appetizing and local food, but a tour guide is there to tell you about the restaurants and Belltown neighborhood. Leslie was my tour guide and with her background in cooking and years of involvement in catering, she describes the cuisines in a detailed manner that makes the food experience even more interesting!
The food tour is a progressive short walking excursion that takes you to six different locations (what a deal!). When I went in July we started at Local 360 which serves harvested food that is sourced within a 360 mile radius. The Arugula & Beet Salad was served with goat cheese from Port Townsend Creamery, and I must say the combination with topped hazelnuts was very enjoyable. The next stop was a bar called Rob Roy that had a retro-hipster atmosphere. Each of us had a Dark and Stormy while we sat and watched the bartender concoct and mix up an assortment of cocktails.
Afterwards we went to a two-time James Beard nominee Japanese restaurant called Shiro’s. Master Chef Shiro Kashiba blends the traditional Japanese technique with the wealth of local seafood, highlighting the great Pacific Northwest cuisine.
I went with my mother and grandmother on the tour and it was a wonderful experience. I have lived in Seattle all my life and even being familiar with the area I got to try new restaurants and exciting new dishes. I like exploring and experimenting with new flavors so this was a great tour to go on. However, if you have any diet restrictions or allergies the company is very accommodating to your needs (just as long as you let them know in advance). For tourists, I would suggest going on the Belltown Food Tour because it allows you to try a wide variety of northwest gastronomy. Think about it…you get delicious food and drinks as well as going on a tour and walking around Seattle, sounds like a fun evening to me!
Seattle Food Tours offers several food tours, including Pike Place Market and Capitol Hill Tours. Select tours are for adults 21+, quotes and reservations are available through the Show Me Seattle website.
