Attending Crypticon Seattle? Make the Most of Your Time in Seattle Southside
Crypticon Seattle, the Northwest's largest horror convention, is held each May in Seattle Southside.
This curiously wonderful region, which includes the cities of SeaTac, Tukwila, and Des Moines, is known for its quirky hidden gems, global dining options, and family-friendly attractions. Below are some insider recommendations to check out while you’re in town.
Things to Do
Game Night, Viking-Style: Take a buddy or crew to Oppegaard Meadery, a Viking-inspired mead hall that feels almost like a secret hideout. Inside, you’ll find a cozy fireplace, large tables, and plenty of board games.
Play Your Heart Out: Go back in time at Waterland Arcade, a retro spot offering unlimited free play for only $16/person, plus craft beverages and pop culture merch.
The Truth is Out There: Sign up for the UFO Mysteries Trail, a free, digital experience that takes you throughout the area to learn about an infamous UFO sighting.
A Real-Life Creature Feature: Behold the giant sloth fossil unearthed during the construction of SEA Airport at the Highline Heritage Museum.
Cinematic Adventures: Feel like you're in a thriller as you solve puzzles and avert disaster at The Escape Game. Right next door is Great Big Game Show, another great activity for groups of friends with a competitive streak. Or, immerse yourself in a terrifying virtual reality game at Dimension XR, where you can fight zombies, outsmart aliens, or explore a haunted manor, all in one place.
Touch Grass: If you need some fresh air, dip out to nearby Angle Lake Park, just a few minutes from the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport. You can also visit the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden, which is free and open to the public. Admire spring blooms as you wind through the garden's paths.
Where to Eat
Crypticon is right in the heart of the World Table District, 30+ locally owned restaurants, cafes, and markets all along International Boulevard (the same street the event is on)! See some highlights below, and browse the directory for a full list.
Order Up to the Hotel: Get Indian-fusion pizza from Pizza Station or Pizza Time delivered to the after-party and be the most popular person at the con.
Wake-Up Call: After a late night at the con, perk up with a Somali Latte from Five Star Espresso, or a blood red Diablito Fuego from Latino Cafe, both drive-thrus in SeaTac.
Dine Like Family: Keep the group bonding going over shared Somali dishes at Zain Restaurant & Bakery Cafe or a giant plate of nachos from Taqueria Jacarandas.
Late Night Bites: In the wee hours, you can get Indian street food at Urban Tapri or a classy drink at 13 Coins Restaurant.
