Foster Golf Links Celebrates 100 Years with Centennial Event Series in Tukwila
Foster Golf Links, a treasured public golf course located alongside the Duwamish River in Tukwila, Washington, proudly announces a series of special events to commemorate its 100th anniversary.
Tukwila, WA — June 17, 2025 - With a legacy dating back to 1925, this centennial celebration invites the public to experience the course’s rich history, natural beauty, and inclusive community spirit through a variety of fun, offbeat events.
A Century of Local Legacy
Originally opened on February 13, 1925, Foster Golf Links was the vision of English golf professional and course architect George H. Eddy, who opened the course during a boom in golf’s popularity. Within a few years, the Puget Sound area saw the opening of Rainier in 1920, Inglewood in 1921, Fircrest in 1923, Glen Acres in 1924, and Broadmoor in 1924.
The site already held historic significance; it was named after the town of Foster, and on the property is a maple tree planted by early pioneer Joseph Foster in 1873. Since its founding, Foster Golf Links has withstood the test of time, enduring the Great Depression and a major flood. Once a mom and pop operation, Mrs. Eddy famously sold sandwiches out of the original clubhouse — the old Foster farmhouse. After Eddy died in 1941, his son, Robert Eddy, operated the course until selling it to greenkeeper Joe Aliment. In 1978, the City of Tukwila purchased the course from the Aliment brothers. Today, it continues to be recognized for its approachable design and peaceful, forested location.
“The course is in great shape, and you can see bald eagles, coyotes, and sometimes seals and sea lions when the salmon are running up the river,” says Deron Pointer, Head Golf Professional at Foster Golf Links.
The onsite restaurant, Billy Baroo’s Smokehouse & Bar, offers views of the course and outdoor patio seating. Famous for its smoked brisket and American classics, it’s a local favorite for dining and private events.
