The U.S.S. Oklahoma City Association held its 2019 annual reunion in the area known as Seattle Southside. As the name indicates, the area is south of the expensiveness of Seattle itself but only a short 20-minute bus ride into the city.
The Association had discussed holding a reunion in the Seattle area for some time but was reluctant because of costs involved. However, it was not until I attended a FAM sponsored by the Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority and the Military Reunion Network that I found costs to be more reasonable in the Southside area.
Our hotel, the Doubletree Suites by Hilton, was perfect for a military reunion and hosted a complimentary buffet breakfast each morning. Its location was near the SEATAC airport and the airport shuttles were also complimentary as were destinations within a 3 miles radius. There were shopping and dining venues within walking distance and in all directions from the hotel.
Their staff is some of the more friendly and helpful encountered at our other reunions. And, the cookies - had to mention the cookies. Yum, yum, yum!!!
The hotel’s location made it an easy bus ride to all our tours including one to Everett, WA, and the Boeing Factory which was an hour ride.
The staff at Seattle Southside RTA were great to work with, offering up helpful suggestions, and were in contact throughout the planning process. They also provided welcome bags for the group.
I highly recommend Seattle Southside as the destination for military reunions. It’s what I call a “sleeper destination” – you just don’t know all that’s there until you do a site visit and then you’ll be surprised by all there is.
