A Drop of Sustenance
A Drop of Sustenance15426 35th Ave S
Tukwila, Washington
Every public transit commuter in the Greater Seattle Area knows the all-too-familiar feeling of rain overhead, so it’s only fitting we’d pay homage to our wet region with a giant raindrop at a Link Light Rail Station. A Drop of Sustenance by Tad Savinar hangs from the ceiling of the Tukwila International Boulevard Station, surrounded by a splash of water, as if frozen at just the moment the drop made a splash. This playful, larger-than-life piece of pop art certainly gives riders something to smile as they enter the platform. As you ride the escalator next to it up the elevated platform, you’re treated to a new perspective of the piece.
About the Artist:
Tad Savinar is a visual artist from the state of Oregon. His work reports on the human condition and invites viewers to take part in a dialogue about their lives. Three of his works can be seen at the Tukwila International Boulevard Station. In addition to A Drop of Sustenance, he created a fantastical molecule on the mezzanine and a set of inscribed pavers on the upper loading platform. All of the texts were developed from interviews with a cross-section of Tukwila residents. His public art can be found in the collections of multiple cities and states as well as museums including The Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Institute, and other private collections.
