What is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival?
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is a region-wide celebration in the Washington town of Mount Vernon. No single farm is designated as an official destination, so you can pick one or more to explore. Venues include RoozenGaarde, Tulip Town, Garden Rosalyn, and Tulip Valley Farms. Many of the farms have a carnival-like vibe, with food, drinks, gifts, and kid-friendly activities. Admission is specific to each farm (there's no single festival ticket). In addition, there are county-wide events happening throughout April, such as a street fair, parade, and art exhibit.

When to Go
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival takes place throughout April, with peak blooms often falling in the first two to three weeks of the month. However, nature is unpredictable...they might bloom in late March and into May. If you’re planning far in advance, mid-April is typically a safe bet.

What to Pack
Be sure to bring rain boots and coats, as the fields can get muddy and the weather is unpredictable in April. It's also wise to bring cash, as some venues or vendors may not accept credit cards. Many people love to use the Tulip Festival as a photo opportunity, so keep that in mind when getting dressed (or dressing kids)!

One of the more popular farms, Tulip Town, has a fairground vibe, with booths selling crafts and sweets. Families with small children wait in line to get their faces painted or look at kites in the kite shop. Wading through the chaos can be a little difficult, but once you make it outside to the massive fields, you'll be overwhelmed by the beautiful display of colorful tulips.
Another favorite is the 50-acre RoozenGaarde, which features tens of millions of tulips in a variety of colors.
Garden Rosalyn, one of the smaller farms, has a sweet pond with ducks and geese that tots will love.
Tulip Valley Farms offers U-pick fields if you've got a kid who can't resist picking beautiful blooms.
There are also lots of fun family-friendly things to do nearby.
Where to Eat in Mount Vernon
If you're looking for somewhere to grab lunch or dinner after leaving the farms, there are plenty of great options in Mount Vernon.
District Brewing offers craft beer, signature pizza, and wings in a charming historic building. It's pet-friendly, family-friendly, and there's plenty of outdoor seating.
The Skagit Valley Food Co-Op is another local favorite, famous for its made-to-order deli sandwiches, organic coffee, and juice bar. There is a nice indoor seating area, and a few tables outside.

Can't get enough blooms? If you still have energy in the afternoon after the festival, or book an extra day to enjoy the region, there's plenty to occupy a plant lover.
Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden is a must-visit. This free, public garden is open from dawn until dusk and features several distinct areas, including a Japanese garden and a tranquil stream. In April, you can see some rare varieties of rhododendrons blooming.
Zenith Holland Nursery & Gift is a gardener's paradise. This large, locally owned greenhouse in Des Moines is packed with plants, tended by extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff.
