SeaTac BMX Gold Cup Finals: A Showcase of Sports Tourism Success
The roar of crowds competed with the sound of planes overhead as the world’s top riders raced during the USA BMX Northwest Gold Cup Final at the SeaTac BMX Track.
For three days, the track was the epicenter of the Pacific Northwest’s BMX scene, hosting the region’s largest and most competitive BMX event to date.
Held September 12–14, 2025, the USA BMX Northwest Gold Cup Final drew more than 5,100 riders and spectators to Seattle Southside. With 150 motos (races) and 700 registered riders, the weekend underscored why this venue has become a premier sports destination.
More than half of the attendees traveled more than 75 miles to attend the races, bringing a vibrant mix of athletes, families, and fans to the region. The event generated an estimated $1.2 million in economic impact, with 83% of that tied directly to out-of-town visitors. These numbers highlight not just the strength of the BMX community but also the capacity of the SeaTac BMX Track and the surrounding area to successfully host high-profile, tourism-driving competitions.
Why the SeaTac BMX Track Was Chosen
Selecting a host city for a USA BMX Gold Cup is no small feat. As Cody Wilson, Director of Track Operations at USA BMX and BMX Canada, explained:
“The selection of a host for a premier event like the Gold Cup Finals is the result of a very deliberate and competitive bid process…SeaTac BMX’s proposal was truly outstanding, demonstrating a remarkable level of passion, preparation, and community-wide support that made them the clear choice.”
For USA BMX, it was both the place and the people that sealed the deal. “We were impressed by the quality of their facility and the incredible enthusiasm of their local BMX scene, which aligned perfectly with our vision for the event.”
A Venue That Delivers
On race day, the venue exceeded expectations. Wilson noted that the collaboration between the track, local volunteers, and Seattle Southside Sports, a division of Explore Seattle Southside, the region’s destination marketing organization, provided an exceptional experience.
“The team at SeaTac BMX and Seattle Southside Sports delivered a first-class experience from start to finish,” said Wilson. “The track was in pristine condition…the community created a truly vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for all our athletes and their families.”
Talent and Competition
The events kicked off with a clinic from Olympic BMX champion Connor Fields, who collaborated with Explore Seattle Southside to showcase the region to his fans on his platforms. The following day, pros signed autographs for fans before racing by age group, with competitors ranging from 18 months to 80 years old.
The competition itself was electric, with youth and professional riders alike leaving their mark. Standouts included Washington’s Tenisyn McKee and Irelyn McGinley, both ranked among the top 10 riders in the world in their divisions. Their performances showcased the depth of talent being fostered locally. At the same time, the Gold Cup attracted adult pros from across the country and internationally, raising the competitive bar and reinforcing the event’s prestige.
This blend of grassroots development and elite competition is exactly what makes BMX unique. It also shows that SeaTac BMX is an ideal stage for events that appeal to multiple audiences: youth sports, family-centered travel, and professional competition.
“My favorite part is always watching those newcomers and dedicated regional racers battle it out and finally get crowned on the podium, earning that coveted Gold Cup ranking,” said Wilson. “Seeing that raw emotion and sense of accomplishment… is incredibly rewarding."
