#GivingTuesday: Charitable Causes in Seattle Southside
This year, #GivingTuesday falls on Tuesday, December 3. For this charitable holiday, we've compiled a list of some of the best charities and nonprofits in the area. If you're willing and able, please consider
The Museum of Flight
In addition to being the epicenter of aviation history in Seattle Southside, The Museum of Flight works to educate children with STEM Learning camps, classes, and programs. This #GivingTuesday, a donation to The Museum of Flight will help to support these and other museum programs and thanks to one generous donor, any amount you donate will be tripled!
Highline Heritage Museum
The Highline Heritage Museum helps tell the stories of Seattle Southside. This new museum creates exhibits and educational programs based around our shared heritage. Please consider donating to the museum to support this cultural community institution.
Des Moines Area Food Bank
The volunteers at the Des Moines Area Food Bank are hard at work to feed the hungry members of our local community. Food donations are always welcome but the food bank is also in need of non-food items like paper bags, toilet paper, laundry detergent, diapers, and pet food. Cash donations are welcome as well as the food bank purchases at wholesale prices so your donation goes further!
Tukwila Children’s Foundation
The Tukwila Children’s Foundation works to meet the unmet needs of Tukwila’s underprivileged and impoverished children. Over the last 20 years, TCF has provided scholarships to children in the Tukwila School District, emergency funding to Tukwila schools, police, and fire departments, administered grants from the City of Tukwila Human Services Department and so much more. The best part of donating to the Tukwila Children’s Foundation is the knowledge that 100% of your donation will go to the local community!
Des Moines Legacy Foundation
Each and every day, the Des Moines Legacy Foundation is working to improve the parks, recreation and senior services of Des Moines. The idea behind the foundation is to create and support the local community by enhancing local services and programs.
Alzheimer’s Association – Washington State Chapter
The fight to end Alzheimer’s starts and ends with the Alzheimer’s Association. Donations on #GivingTuesday go further with the $1 Million Matching Gift Challenge. Your gift will be matched (up to $1 million) so it will go twice as far in advancing Alzheimer’s research and providing care and support to Alzheimer’s patients.
COCOPOP at Axis Pioneer Square (Benefiting Northwest Harvest)
The chocolate purveyors at JCOCO are hosting a 21+ multi-sensory party in Pioneer square on Wednesday, December 4th. This event will have interactive installations, live entertainment and exclusive chocolates and sweets. A portion of proceeds will benefit Northwest Harvest.
Toy Drives
The Des Moines Police Department and Lutheran Community Services are holding toy drives for the holiday season. The Des Moines Police Department toy drive benefits the Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress and the Lutheran Community Services Holiday of Hope drive benefits the Angle Lake Family Resource Center.
