Easy Filipino Spaghetti Recipe with Erika Diama

This kid-friendly twist on a classic combines sweet, savory, and cheesy(!) elements to make this dish a beloved staple in the Philippines and to all those who know it.

Self-taught home cook and food-obsessed digital content creator, Erika Diama of Erika Taste Test on Instagram shares her recipe for Filipino Spaghetti, inspired by her recent trip to Jollibee at Westfield Southcenter Mall.

Westfield Southcenter Mall is a very special place to me; it’s where I always go whenever I’m craving Filipino food. When I’m there (which is very often), I feel right at home!

Filipino spaghetti is one of my favorite comfort foods, and after having some at Jollibee in Tukwila at the mall, it made me crave even more! Luckily, Seafood City is right next to Jollibee, so I was able to pick up all the ingredients I needed to make it at home. Here's how I do it!

Filipino Spaghetti Recipe Inspired by Jollibee

Ingredients:
1 head garlic, minced
½ onion, diced
12oz Filipino red hotdogs, sliced
1lb ground beef
35.27oz UFC Sweet Filipino Style Spaghetti Sauce
⅓ cup tomato ketchup (optional)
Black pepper
1.5 lbs spaghetti noodles
Cheddar cheese, shredded, to serve

Directions:
1. In a large pot, saute garlic in oil over medium heat until it turns slightly brown. Add onions. Saute for about 2 minutes then add the hotdogs. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, then add the ground beef.

2. When beef has browned and juices start to come out, add the spaghetti sauce. Taste the sauce and if you find it a bit too sweet, add tomato ketchup. Season to taste with cracked black pepper.

3. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti noodles according to package.

5. Serve spaghetti with freshly grated cheese. I like to use this Filipino cheese called “Cheezee” by the brand Magnolia.

Note: If you cannot find Filipino Sweet Style Spaghetti Sauce, you can substitute it with regular tomato sauce and add sugar. The amount of sugar will depend on your taste, so start with a small amount and add more until you reach the desired flavor.
