Be dazzled by more than 700,000 sparkling, energy-efficient LED lights glowing in the shapes of animals, whimsical scenes and iconic landmarks during the 30th Anniversary edition of Zoolights at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma. This is the Puget Sound region's longest-running and most-loved holiday light display, with zoo animals coming to life in lights from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly at the zoo in beautiful Point Defiance Park, 5400 N. Pearl St. Watch a tiger cub chasing a butterfly. See ice skating puffins. Get your photo with a majestic polar bear family sitting on ice floes. Be amazed by a 23-foot-tall replica of Mount Rainier, complete with realistic river-of-light glaciers; marvel at the twin Tacoma Narrows bridges in lights; feel the glow of the 30,030-light Flame Tree; be awed by a 100-foot-wide octopus atop the old aquarium; watch a crab with moving pincers; see sea turtles, hammerhead sharks and eagle rays in lights, paying tribute to the new Pacific Seas Aquarium. The new aquarium will be closed during Zoolights hours, but visitors can purchase Day/Night Combo passes at the zoo's front gate to see the zoo during the day and enjoy all the lights after dark. The zoo's South Pacific Aquarium, home to 16 large sharks, will be open during Zoolights, so visitors can view these animals while warming up for a bit inside. There also will be camel and carousel rides and much more. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. nightly from Nov. 23-Jan. 6, with a one-night closure on Dec. 24. Zoolights will be open on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
