The third annual Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon is coming up on Saturday, June 25, 2011. The best part about the race… there’s live music at each mile post keeping runners and spectators rocking all the way to the finish line.
Last year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon sold out with 28,000 marathon and half marathon runners, an estimated 118,000 spectators and generated approximately $35 million in economic impact for the region. Going the distance from Tukwila to Seattle, the course encompasses some of the most scenic areas of Puget Sound. Participants converge at the start on Interurban Avenue in Tukwila, race along the shores of Lake Washington, continue onto the Alaskan Way Viaduct with views of Elliot Bay, pass by the Space Needle and finish outside Qwest Field in downtown Seattle.
This year three staff members are participating in the race. Ashley, Kristina and Meilee will all be running the half marathon. Be sure to come down to the finish line or hang out along the course to cheer them on!
In preparation for the race, there will be a special Health & Fitness Expo at Qwest Field on Thursday, June 23, 2011. This is a free event and will include free samples and information on the latest in running gear, apparel and nutrition from more than 100 exhibitors including Seattle Southside! Come visit us at the City of Tukwila booth where you can make cheer signs, get a tattoo and a t-shirt.
A variety of local Seattle Southside hotels are offering special packages and rates for the marathon weekend and the Link Light Rail offers seamless transportation to and from the event.
Get ready to rock!
