Here at the Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority, we’re always working with local and national media outlets to promote the destination. Oftentimes, we invite members of the media to take a tour of the area to sample some of the region’s leisure and business highlights. On Friday, October 25th, we took the editorial staff from 425 Magazine on a tour of Seattle Southside.
The tour began at the RTA headquarters with a presentation on the organization from RTA President & CEO Katherine Kertzman. After a quick tour of the office and visitor center, the group was whisked away in the Seattle Southside Mobile Visitor Center to start their tour. The caravan took the scenic route through SeaTac and Tukwila, allowing the writers/editors to see sights like the Seattle Chocolate factory, Odin Brewing Co., iFLY Seattle and Hotel Interurban on the way to their first stop, Starfire Sports.
The group was treated to an all-encompassing tour of Starfire Sports including 12 outdoor and two indoor pitches, stadium, athletic center, restaurants and retail establishments. After their tour and a presentation from representatives at Starfire Sports, the group was joined by a volunteer at Destination Des Moines and taken to the City of Des Moines Harbormaster office at the Des Moines Marina.
At the marina, the writers had a chance to hear from City staff about the future of the Des Moines Waterfront and plans for future development. Artist renditions of future development were showcased, and printed information was disseminated among the group. After the presentation in Des Moines, the group was taken to their final stop of the tour, the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center for lunch.
The group was joined by General Manager Rich Scherzinger for a spectacular four-course meal at Spencer’s. The menu featuring miso marinated Neah Bay black cod, Dungeness crab cake, heirloom tomato & buratta caprese, double ranch bone in beef tenderloin, and berry crisp for dessert was designed by Executive Chef Dan Ramos as a sample of the available offerings at Spencer’s.
We would like to sincerely thank all partners that participated in this media tour! Several articles have already been written about the area as a result of this trip, which would not have been possible without the cooperation and participation of our partners. Thank you all!
