Starfire Sports, a non-profit corporation dedicated to inspiring, encouraging and empowering youth participation in soccer, announced a partnership with Seattle SCORES to host the organization’s youth play at its world-class soccer complex at Fort Dent Park in Tukwila. The partnership is a manifestation of Starfire’s mission to provide the opportunity for all youth to experience the positive impact of team sports through soccer at a world-class soccer facility.

An affiliate of America SCORES, Seattle SCORES is an intensive, five-day per week after-school program that targets kids who are at-risk for academic failure in urban neighborhoods that offer few, if any, recreational program. The mission of Seattle SCORES is to strengthen urban public school children and communities through soccer, literacy and community service. SCORES participant’s exercise both their minds and their bodies through regular participation and skill building in soccer, creative writing, poetry and community service. Teamwork – the key to success in both education and sports -- is the common denominator.

“For our kids to play at this world-class facility is fantastic,” said Julie Cain executive director of Seattle SCORES. “Many of these kids’ only opportunity to play organized sports is through the Seattle SCORES program, and to play at the Starfire Sports soccer complex provides even more incentive to get both kids and parents involved. We have been told by the principals at our Seattle-area schools that there is already more parent involvement at our games than any other school function.”

Currenly, Seatle SCORES serves over 250 Seattle-area students in 8 public schools in the Seattle, Highline and Tukwila school district with future plans to serve more pubkuc schools within the Puget Sound region. Nationally, America SCORES has established programs in eight cities including Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC. The organization will expand its national affiliates, adding four more cities in the coming years.

“Partnering with Seattle SCORES represents a significant step for Starfire Sports in realizing its mission of bringing all youth into the sport of soccer regardless of their background,” said Chris Slatt, chairman and chief executive officer of Starfire Sports. “Many urban youth have been left out of organized soccer, we hope through our partnership with Seattle SCORES to provide some of these kids better access to the game.”
