Seattle Southside Visitor Services and its Marketing Communications Coordinator Karla Lindula have both been honored with a prestigious Totem Award by the Public Relations Society of America’s Puget Sound Chapter.

Honored at the February 8 awards gala in Seattle, Seattle Southside Visitor Services was the winner of a Totem Award for their Every Map Leads To A Treasure promotional campaign in the Marketing Communications – Travel and Tourism category and their Marketing Communications Coordinator, Karla Lindula, was honored with one of two Totem Awards of the evening for Outstanding Young Professional.

“Winning the Totem award in our category is very gratifying because of the short timeline and small budget our team overcame to complete a successful campaign,” Lindula says.

The Every Map Leads To A Treasure campaign was devised to launch the newly designed and published Seattle Southside Tourism Map in July 2006. The campaign included direct mail components, web promotion, a sweepstakes, and business-to-business promotion. As Marketing Communications Coordinator for Seattle Southside Visitor Services, Lindula served as the lead on the campaign and was honored for the high level of professionalism she showed on the project while having less than three years of professional public relations experience.

The Totem Awards honor excellence in public relations programs and components based on judging in the areas of research, planning, execution and evaluation.

Seattle Southside Visitor Services serves as the Office of Tourism for the cities of Tukwila, SeaTac, Kent and Des Moines. Funded by a percentage of the lodging tax collected in those cities, Seattle Southside Visitor Services assists visitors with their travel plans to the region.
