(Seattle)—The Port of Seattle will open a new central security checkpoint on Wednesday afternoon at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The process of opening the checkpoint will begin at 3 p.m., with the new facility expected to be in full operation in time for the mid-morning rush on Thursday.

In the short term, the new checkpoint replaces the B concourse checkpoint. Delta and Southwest airlines are the primary users of the B Concourse.

“We expect a seamless transition to this new checkpoint and believe it will better serve the needs of our travelers,” said Jeff Fitch, director of aviation security for the Port of Seattle. “When the entire Central Terminal Expansion is done, this checkpoint will be one of a number amenities that will make traveling through Sea-Tac a much more efficient and enjoyable process.”

The entire Central Terminal Expansion (CTE) project remains on-track for a spring 2005 opening. When it opens, CTE will feature an expanded central checkpoint serving concourses B, C, and D, as well as a number of new shops and restaurants for travelers.
