KENT, Wash. – May 23, 2006 – Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services and the Kent Arts Commission celebrate the eighth annual Fourth of July Splash at Lake Meridian Park, 14800 SE 272nd St. The Splash takes place on Tuesday, July 4, from noon until the fireworks conclude at approximately 10:30 p.m. The Splash is free and open to all those seeking a Fourth of July filled with headline entertainment, water-activities, family games, a variety of food booths and fireworks.

The Splash begins at noon with a car show that continues through 8 p.m. Other fun activities through 5 p.m. include interactive computer activities, old fashioned games, face painting, a giant lego display, “Rain Gutter Boat Races” and the bubble bounce. The famous Splash pie-eating contest begins at 3 p.m. and a variety of food booths offer kettle corn, espresso, burgers, curly fries and more. Non-motorized boat races, dragon boat rides and the annual Lake Meridian Boat Parade take place on the water throughout the day!

This year’s Splash is soundtracked by folk, pop, blues and motivational rap. Splash entertainment includes the King County Journal-sponsored Community Showcase featuring local artists on the Valley Medical Center Stage from noon to 7:30 p.m. Juggler extraordinaire and all around funny guy, Greg Bennick returns as the Splash emcee and gravity-defying performer. The Rainier Symphony performs at 9 p.m. and continues to play patriotic tunes through the 10 o’clock hour as the fireworks light up the evening sky. This 2006 pyrotechnic show promises to be the biggest and best ever and is reputed as one of the largest professionally produced fireworks displays in South King County.

Off-site parking and free shuttle bus service, which begins at 11:30 a.m. and continues to run every 20 to 30 minutes, provides easy access to Lake Meridian. Just follow event parking signs to 132nd Ave. Park and Ride; Horizon Elementary School, 27641 144th Ave. SE; Fire Station #75, 15635 SE 272nd St. and Covington Library, 27100 164th Ave. SE.
