Kent Fourth of July Splash: Kent's seventh annual Fourth of July Splash celebrates Independence Day at Lake Meridian Park. This free family event features old-fashioned fames, hands-on arts projects, a giant Lego display, pie eating contest, food booths, local and regional entertainment with Rainier Symphony performing before and during one of the largest fireworks displays in South King County. Off-site parking and shuttle service are free and convenient.

Summer Concert Series: This series provides a fabulous summer soundtrack of the blues, American roots music, bag pipes, folk, the music of Mexico and Cuba and much more! Seventeen free performances in four of Kent's most beautiful parks will provide lots of opportunities to enjoy the summer weather and the best in live performances with a variety of musical genres, juggling, puppet theatre and great entertaining for kids.

Missoula Children's Theatre - "Pinocchio" : Get real with Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services and Missoula Children's Theatre this summer! Actors in grades K-12 are invited to an open audition on Monday, July 18, 10:00 a.m. - noon at Kent Commons, 525 4th Ave. North in Kent. There is no preparation necessary and no fee to audition, but children must arrive at 10:00 a.m. and stay the entire two hour period. Those cast will pay a $45 participation fee and must be available for rehearsals Jly 18-23, 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The intensive week-long rehearsals culminate in bringing "Pinocchio" to life in two public performances featuring the local cast on Saturday, July 23, 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Kent-Meridian Performing Arts Center, 10020 SE 256th Street, Kent. This original adaptation of the classic fairy tale is recommended for pre-school through 5th grade. Tickets are $5 for adults and children and are available by calling (253) 856-5050 and at the door if seats remain.

Canterbury Arts Festival ~ Music ~ Arts ~ Food ~ Fun!: Celebrate diversity in arts, culture and heritage. Now in its 19th year, Canterbury is one of the largest and oldest arts festivals in south Puget Sound. This year's festival features an opening gala and fine art preview, quality music and performances on two stages, fine art, literature and crafts marketplace, Medieval and Renaissance Villages, a children's fair area and variety of food booths. Off-site parking and shuttle service is free and convenient.

Opening Gala/Fine Art Preview: Thursday, August 18th, 5:30-8:30 pm. This is a ticketed event featuring beverages, hors d'oeuvres, entertainment, a dessert bar and fine art preview.

Admission: $20, Age 21 and over, please

Festival Dates: August 20 and 21, 2005, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Kent's Art Galleries: The Kent Arts Commission Gallery is located on the fourth floor of Kent City Hall, 220 4th Ave. South, and hosts monthly fine art exhibits of two-dimensional art by local and regional artists. Both Galleries are open to the public 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
