Michael Ferguson was born in Seattle and graduated from the Burnley School of Professional Art. Employed as an illustrator for many years, Ferguson began an independent artistic career in 1988. Since then, his work has been exhibited in galleries from New York and Florida to the Northwest, with pieces in collections scattered worldwide. Locally his work is held by the City of Kent Portable Art Collection, Nordstrom, Boeing and the Frye Art Museum. Ferguson received a 2004 Main Show Purchase Award at Canterbury Arts Festival and exhibited at the 2004 Tacoma Art Museum Biennial.

"Everyday Scenes and Landscapes" revels two distinct trends in Michael Ferguson's work -- Northwest landscape and Narrative paintings. He explains: "As a Northwest native, it is no surprise that I am influenced constantly by our rich and varied landscape. Until recently, I was expressing myself almost exclusively from this viewpoint. Life changes occurred...which have triggered a new appreciation and focus on the more ordinary and human things in my life." This exhibition showcases the change from representational landscapes using a multi-colorist approach to a narrative journey illuminating everyday scenes in a free, dreamier painting style.

Take a fascinating journey through the work of Michael Ferguson beginning December 1st at Kent Art Commission's Centennial Center Gallery, 400 West Gowe Street, Kent. "Michael Ferguson: Everyday Scenes and Landscapes" will be on display December 1, 2004 - February 24, 2005. The gallery is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For directions or information about our exhibition program, contact the Kent Arts Commission, artscommission@ci.kent.wa.us or (253) 856-5050.
