Seattle, May 27, 2008: Looking for an alternative to driving to Tacoma for the Tall Ships Festival this July? Festival goers can extend their festival experience by parking in downtown Des Moines and hopping on a water taxi that will take them from the Des Moines Marina to the festival action at Tacoma’s Foss Waterway between July 4-6.

The Water Taxi will run two round-trips daily. On July 4, the water taxi departs Des Moines at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and returns from Tacoma at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. On July 5 and 6, the water taxi departs Des Moines at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. and returns from Tacoma at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. To reserve water taxi tickets please call the Des Moines Recreation Department at 206-870-6527 or visit for more information about the water taxi and available cruises.

The Tacoma Tall Ships Festival runs July 3-7 and includes tours and sailing adventures with over 30 tall ships. Festivities also include entertainment, food, beer gardens, educational displays, arts and crafts, hands-on activities, children’s activities and more. The festival is free, but tickets must be purchased to board the vessels.

The City of Des Moines is a quaint waterfront community with a marina and historic beach park. Before or after a water taxi ride to the Tall Ships festival, festival goers can enjoy a picnic on the beach, shopping in downtown Des Moines or dining in one of the tempting restaurants including Anthony’s Homeport, Wally’s Chowderhouse, Butler’s Bar and Grill and more.
