Wild Wheat Bakery Cafe and Restaurant

Instead of spending half of Saturday morning waiting for a table at one of the city's jam-packed breakfast joints, take a 30-minute jaunt to charming downtown Kent for the best blintzes this side of Brooklyn.
With plenty of tables and parking -- plus divine baked goods -- the Wild Wheat Bakery, Cafe & Restaurant could be the answer to breakfast gridlock.
You can build your own omelet or try one off the menu. The smoked salmon omelet is stuffed with mild house-smoked salmon and cream cheese, served with new potato home fries and toast from homemade breads ($8.50).
The blintzes are haloed in cinnamon and filled with vanilla-flavored cottage and cream cheeses, served with sour cream and berries or apples ($7.50). Owner Mark Handman, formerly of the Greenwood Bakery, credits his Russian grandmother Minnie with the recipe.
You probably won't have room for the buttery marionberry Danish or pecan roll, but grab a couple to go for Sunday brunch.
Lunch is served everyday but Sunday and offerings include gourmet sandwiches such as roasted turkey with cranberry aioli and the vegetarian grinder with grilled eggplant, plus a few surprises. Who knew you could get a duck, mango and caramelized onion wrap in Kent?
